Paula Deen and Her Diabetes

Paula_Deen_1So Paula Deen has finally come clean about being a diabetic.

Part of me is "ooey gooey buttercake" happy that it will get a bit more attention. But the other part is afraid Paula and her kids will turn this into another multi million dollar business.

See the thing is the big pharm companies have no idea how to really market this disease. They have been just waiting for a big name like Paula so that they can ride her coat tails into the land of more and more megabucks. And yeah she mentioned the big winner on national tv. Now that "must not be named" company will break the bank and give her about 20 to 50 million for some 5 year deal with them to help sell their meds.

Do it Yourself Diabetes

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) loves doing studies. Fortunately for them, people as a rule are really dumb and the world isn't hurting for diseases.

The CDC has new data that show's it's easy to get diabetes in 2011 with Coke and Pepsi brand home diabetes kits.

What's the deal with diabetics?

not-politically-correct-commentariesThere are over 346 million of us diagnosed with diabetes, who knows how many more walking around clueless that they have it, and more and more finding out every day. Don't we all have enough to fight without fighting each other too?

I visit sites. I make a simple post, ask some questions that are important to me and I get torn a new one by some Type 1s. What is it "My Type 1 is better than your Type 2"? It seems like if you ask a simple question or make a statement that they think is foolish you are a target for ridicule. Sorry. Didn't know there was a test you had to pass to be considered a diabetic worthy of respect. I thought checking your sugar, watching everything you eat, balancing meds, worrying about what was going to happen to you down the line was enough to make you a full member of the "diabetic club."

Where is my support group?

Diabetes_support_groupNow the other day I went to an amputee support group my friend has been part of for a couple of years. I've been to AA and quit smoking groups and all other sorts of get togethers for people with all sorts of issues and challenges. But after searching all over my city, and cities up to 20 miles away, I have not been able to find a legit support group for those of us with diabetes. I found a group that meets at a local hospital. But they charged for it! There wasn't any real support there either. It was more like an infomercial for the hospital. And there were only 6 people there...wonder why??!!
