Paula Deen and Her Diabetes

Paula_Deen_1So Paula Deen has finally come clean about being a diabetic.

Part of me is "ooey gooey buttercake" happy that it will get a bit more attention. But the other part is afraid Paula and her kids will turn this into another multi million dollar business.

See the thing is the big pharm companies have no idea how to really market this disease. They have been just waiting for a big name like Paula so that they can ride her coat tails into the land of more and more megabucks. And yeah she mentioned the big winner on national tv. Now that "must not be named" company will break the bank and give her about 20 to 50 million for some 5 year deal with them to help sell their meds.

Don't you know they will refill their coffers by raising the prices. So basically anyone using their medications will be helping to pay Miss Paula. Then she will put out about 3 new cook books with her old recipes remade. It is all so easy to see. The part that ticks me off is that we work everyday on our end and we see people on the front line that these big companies reject everyday. The same company that is banging down her door to give her a few million is the same company that will tell some local walk they don't have the money, or they are all spent for this year. They don't seem to have 5 dollars for a real cause but when a celeb has something they have no limit on spending. The marketing companies and pr companies and her agents are racing to figure out the biggest and best deals.

So will this be good for diabetics?

At the end of the day if people see someone like her that has made her name for pushing butter like it was essential to maintain our life force, and for using enough sugar to rot the teeth of half the population of the USA and for cooking foods in oceans full of artery clogging fat they think it is ok. I can only imagine how many people got diabetes or some other disease making some of Paula's food. Lets be honest folks, we all saw this coming.

Scores of people eat like this and have heart issues and high blood pressure and the list goes on. I am not so much mad at Paula per se but at how this could divert attention from the ones that are fighting each day to help save a life, What about more attention to the care givers or the doctors that are on the front line. She will make a great attraction at a expo or a walk or some great tv spots made just for her. And soon to come some product lines, maybe some sugar free products. We will see before and after pictures after she does some weight loss program.

I think Anthony Bourdain said it best

Anthony Bourdain in a TV Guide article called her out for being "the worst, most dangerous person to America," who "revels in her unholy connections with evil corporations" and is "proud of the fact that her food is f---ing bad for you."
These thoughts are mine and not of the site.

Gavin, isn't this a little harsh?

Gavin, I change my question... I didn't know she has known about her diabetes for 3 years. THREE years knowing that she was promoting unhealthy foods that probably helped her succumb to Type II.

Only after she secured a deal, did she come out.

Does that make her idolatry money or food?
