Juvenile Diabetes Treatment

Juvenile_Diabetes_TreatmentIf you have juvenile diabetes it is not the end of the world. You can continue do things you want.  Don't site at home feeling down and out because of diabetes.  It is not your fault that you have it. Some research shows that children who have diabetes are more able to control it than those who develop them later in life. Why? They know, understand, and accept their body's condition better than those who never really paid attention.

There is no actual cure for juvenile diabetes. Research is working on the possibility of a pancreas transplant, but it isn't feasible - yet. What can be done now is to quiet the symptoms and try to lower the blood glucose levels.  These cause major damage in your body. Having increased blood glucose for a long period of time may slowly destroy certain nerves and even cause permenant blurred vision.

Type 1 diabetes can appear at any time in an individual's life but it is more likely to appear in childhood. This type of diabetes occurs because the pancreas does not make insulin, a hormone that helps glucose reach the cells and give them energy, explains MedlinePlus. Without insulin, glucose levels in the blood increase creating a wide variety of symptoms.

kidNew research shows that adolescents and young adults with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes have thicker and stiffer carotid arteries, also known as atherosclerosis, a risk factor for heart attack and stroke in adults. This research is believed to be the first to examine whether type 1 diabetes has a measurable effect on carotid arteries in this age group.

In the study, researchers tracked sleep patterns among 50 kids with type 1 diabetes aged 10 to 16. Compared with similarly aged kids, the children with diabetes were found to be spending more time in a lighter stage of sleep.

Concerns abound over the mortality statistics from Saint Lucia’s health authorities which indicate that diabetes, hypertension, and related complications of chronic non-communicable diseases are the chief causes of death in Saint Lucia.

Results obtained by Dr. Michael Craven in 2006 from a screening campaign on diabetes and hypertension indicated that Saint Lucia is one of the countries with the highest rate of diabetes in the world; 28.1% of the population having abnormal blood glucose or high blood sugar, and some 8.1%of the population being diabetic.
